FOUL BALL!!

We were at last night's dbacks game against the Florida Marlins.  Tom shares season tickets with some others and the seats are located directly behind homeplate along the third base line and it is definitely foul ball territory where there have been many near misses over the years.  Well, last night was Tom's lucky night.  He caught a foul ball that ricocheted off the upper deck and with barely a bobble caught it easy as pie.  Last night was also the first time we saw Randy Johnson pitch this season and he had 13 strikeouts.  Plus, Luis Gonzalez was the pinch hitter at the end for the Marlins and it was good to see him again.  It was pretty exciting stuff!  It came off of Augie Ojeda's bat and everytime he was up, a group behind was chant, "Augie, Augie, Augie, Oi, Oi, Oi"  It was funny and loud.  A few weeks ago a friend from work came in contact with a foul ball.  His luck wasn't as good as Tom's because he got it right in the eye.  He was wearing glasses that he said are now pretzel shaped.  His eye looked terrible.  Yuck.  Fortunately, he won't lose the sight in it and can see now without much bluriness.  Poor guy.

Making money at blogging

I heard on the radio today about a woman in Utah with an extremely popular blog. I guess she discusses a lot of topics including kids, dogs, boobs, the Mormon church, etc. The church pays her $40,000 a month to advertise on her blog. That is $480,000 per year with little to no overhead. Man, why can't things like this come my way. I'm thinking the Catholic Church would have no interest in my blog.

Jury Duty

Jury duty has come and gone. I was actually picked for a jury and served a day and a half. Often, people in the legal profession are automatically rejected from the jury for obvious reasons. I was selected along with 6 other people to decide a drunk driving case. The defendant had two charges against him. One being that he was in control of a vehicle while impaired and the other was that he blew a 0.08 on the breathalyzer. When the case was given to us, we deliberated for about an hour and a half. We agreed that he had blown a breath test over the legal limit so found him guilty on that charge but we were hung on whether or not he was "impaired to the slightest degree". I voted guilty on both counts because it seems the two charges really can't be inseperable. If you blow a 0.08 then chances are really good that you were driving while impaired.

I haven't served on a jury for over 20 years so it was interesting to see how "behind the scenes" work. I have prepared for and participated in several jury trials and you know that as soon as your case goes to a jury, it's anybody's guess what's going to happen.

Where has August gone???

We are in mid August and I only have two August entries in my blog. Truthfully, I have just not had the interest or the energy to enter anything on my blog. I'm turning into a lazy bones Jones and need to rectify my ways before I fall into the abyss of total laziness. Not much sewing, no yard work, no house work, no photography, zilch. A lot of reading but that's not saying much.

My Commissioned Purse

Last week, I gave the purse Marge commissioned from me to her.  She and her husband loved it!  Recently, she gave the purse to the person she commissioned it for and she went nuts over it.  That gave me a really good feeling because I had great confidence in this purse and thought I did an excellent job putting it together (even though I had to repair several mistakes) and I loved the color combination.  It turned out a positive experience for all.  Here are some photos (they could have been much better but, oh well)

Hello. I am a goofy looking guy
