Random thoughts

It's only been a week but I'm holding true to my Lenten vows. Not going to divulge what I gave up here but so far it's working out well. Not eating meat on Friday is proving to be a killer.
I was contacted by USA Weekend Magazine/Make A Difference Day several weeks ago and was told my application had been received. The 10 $10,000 winners are to be announced in March. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Tom is traveling this weekend so the dogs and I have the house to ourselves. Have a few things planned but probably won't do anything any differently than if he was here.
Sometimes, lawyers can be a trial. 'Nuff said.

The start of a new work week

I finished another clothes line bowl and this one turned out exactly as I planned. I love when that happens; when the image in your mind becomes reality. I also made good progress on my large chenille throw. It is very heavy. Now to get busy finishing or starting all the other projects.

I need to think hard about accepting a third dog into our home. Yes, I would like to save a dog from homelessness but will all three dogs get along? Can I afford three dogs? Can I walk three dogs? These are the most important questions. Right now, Roscoe and Addie get along great together even though they have had a few spats throughout their life. Addie accepted Roscoe right away but will a third dog change the dynamics of this relationship? I would think at first there is going to be some jogging around to figure out who is the leader here but hopefully, it would only be a blip. I have never had three dogs before. Will I become one of those old ladies whose house becomes overrun with dogs that are ill-cared for? I highly doubt it but one never knows. Is it fair to Tom to live in a home with three dogs?

How about this one?

Comments

My friend has informed me that she is unable to post a comment so I have finagled with this blog and figured out what is wrong. Now, comments can be posted.

Very, very busy at work. When it rains, it pours I guess. I don't know how things have done a complete 180 but they have. No complaints about that. Better to be too busy than not busy enough.

No big plans for the weekend. Mostly house and yard chores. Maybe some sewing. I need to get some of these projects completed.

Rats

I just received information from springer spaniel rescue that the dog I was interested in has been adopted. I guess there were 8 people who were interested in Riley. Based on the description, he would have just been perfect. I really hope he went to a great home. I'm kind of p.o.'d at rescue. It seems they don't know me from Adam even though I have volunteered numerous times for them and have given them what I consider to be a substantial amount of money over the years. One would think that someone who has adopted from them before would be on the fast track application process but apparently not.

I currently have about 5 sewing projects going on at home and I'm wondering if I'm slightly insane to have so many things going at once. Not to mention I have just added a sixth.

Birthday

Tuesday was my birthday and I celebrated by not going to work. I spent the morning doing a few little chores and then did some sewing. The rest of the day was spent with my mom at the Phoenix Art Museum checking out the Rembrandt exhibit. This was the first time I have been to the museum since they finished it and it is very impressive. Even though we had reservations, we had to stand in line to get into the exhibit but it was worth it. I am certainly not a fan of Dutch art but this opened up my eyes a little and made me be more appreciative of it.
We didn't spend much time on any other exhibits other than the fashion design gallery which had various gowns dating from the 1800s to 2006. That was a lot of fun. Both of us wanted to touch all of them but of course we were prohibited from doing that.
On another note, I am thinking of adopting another rescue springer. It might be insanity on my part but it is definitely in my mind. This will have to be given a lot of thought.

Tea in the Hood

Saturday was our neighborhood's annual tea party. Usually, it is sometime during the Christmas season but this year, it was held in honor of Valentine's Day. About 17 neighbor ladies from three streets showed up which was a decent turnout. I was one of the hostesses this year but didn't do much other than deliver the invitations, make cookie bars and bring the tea. I didn't even have to help clean up!

This is a great way to meet your neighbors and learn of new things going on in the neighborhood. This year, we learned that some neighbors still have roof rats. It sounds like the people who have the problems with them are the ones who have citrus and/or fruit trees in their yards. I wonder what the dogs would do if they saw a rat.

Fabric wrapped bowl

I bought a book from the Sewing Festival called "It's a Wrap" and it contains instructions on making a fabric wrapped bowl. Strips of fabric are wrapped around clothes line and then zig-zagged stitched to make bowls, baskets and purses. This was my first attempt. A little rough but not to bad.

Ebay

I have not purchased anything from ebay for a very long time but I noticed that one of my favorite artists had a new watercolor of a springer spaniel so I had to buy it. I have an entire grouping of this guy's work in my house. I love his stuff.

I thought this was a very interesting color combination.

Weekend

What a lazy weekend this was. Normally, I will do some kind of yard work or something but this weekend I blew it all off and pretty much did nothing but sew and read. I didn't even suffer any guilt from it. Although, I know that next weekend it means I will have double the work to do.
