Slightly amusing

Here is a video I found on youtube. It's slightly amusing if you are a quilter. Even if you're not.

Attack of the Pods

We have two mesquite trees in our front yard (one in the back) and this time of year they are a total mess. Saturday, I went out to clean up the mesquite pods in the front yard and remove some of the more decrepit brittlebush. When I was done, it looked pretty good with just a couple of pods here and there. But then Sunday evening when we took the dogs for a walk, a large majority of the front yard was covered again. You just can't win for losing. Later this evening, I'll be out cleaning them up again. This will go on for several more weeks until all the pods have fallen from the trees. In the backyard, I get help from the dogs because they really like to eat the pods and vacuum them up with their mouths. It's ok...I talked to the vet and he said that eating the pods wouldn't hurt them. Native Americans use the beans in the pods to make flour so there must be something good about them.

Sunday, I was able to spend several hours quilting but I am very disappointed in my project. It is a cat quilt where the cats are sitting/playing on some steps in the moonlight It should have been a very easy project but as I sewed the strips of nine patches together, I had a lot of mismatched seams. You would think that someone who has quilted as long as I have would be able to have perfectly matched seams. Not so!!! And these were not even teeny tiny blocks which would have been a good excuse for not matching. I know exactly what my mistake was but I'm not going back to rectify it. I think and hope that when the quilt is quilted, many of the mismatched seams will not be as readily apparent as they are now. I was thinking of giving it to my vet since his office is kind of boring but I probably won't do that since he is now a quilter and from what I can tell, he is a perfectionist.

Weekend update

Friday, we had bunco at one of the newbie's houses. It was fun and she did an exceptional job on a last minute notice. She cooked up some marvelous grub and I hope she will share with me the recipe to her lemon bars. They were yummy.

Saturday was sewing. The project was the diva bag taught by my friend Mary. It was kind of a difficult project but maybe if I would have read the directions, it would have been easier. That took almost the whole day. Didn't get home until about 2:30 and I escaped 35th Avenue without buying an inch of fabric or any new sewing books. I did buy some quilting thread and a purse magnet but those were necessities.

Sunday was the Dbacks game against the Red Sox. Randy Johnson was pitching and it was a really good game. Especially since we won. I thought the Red Sox Nation was kind of fun but Tom thought the fans were a bunch of dopes. I had dinner arrangements with my friends at 6:00 and we didn't get out of the game until after 5:00 so I had to drop Tom off at home and continue on to the restaurant. It was a nice dinner but one of my friends kind of ticked me off by bad mouthing my bunco group. She used to be in it and she said it was getting too extreme for her as far as the hostesses trying to outdo each other. A total untruth which I tried to correct but I don't think it made a dent in her opinion.

The dogs kind of got gypped on their walks because of the jam-packed weekend. I figure they will survive.

Yesterday, I attended a very informative seminar on e-discovery and the application of the new Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The speakers were very knowledgeable and made it an enjoyable seminar. Monday night, I finally got a chance to mess around with my camera but now I am more confused than ever.

Camera

Finally took my new camera out of the box. It is a dandy. The only thing I have done so far is to put the strap on, insert the memory card, insert the batteries and set the time and date. Oh yeah...and take a picture of Roscoe. I have a lot to learn but I'm thinking about taking a digital photography class from Phoenix College. That should be very helpful.

Tonight is bunco, tomorrow is sewing, Sunday is a baseball game and dinner out with my friends. Don't know when I can get back to figuring out the camera...much less, doing the laundry!
