Stuff

The book club meeting went well. We have picked out our books for the next year and will be meeting at different people's houses throughout the year. My hostess date is in June and that will be a little hectic because on the Tuesday before the book club, we have tickets to see Alison Kraus. Then, Wednesday night is the book club and beginning on Friday and lasting through Sunday, is the Sew In. Oh goody! Goody! Goody!

Tom and I took the day off last Monday to spend together at Body Worlds 3 at the Arizona Science Museum. That was truly an incredible exhibit! We got there early and there weren't too many people there but there sure were when we were leaving.

The human body is really an amazing thing. The whole plastination thing is fascinating although a little ghoulish.

Book club

Tonight is the first meeting of our book club. This is something brand new that has just been started by some of the neighbors in my old neighborhood. There are only five of us to start with and of those five, I only know one person. Never been in a book club before so I don't really know how it operates but I'll soon find out.

Yesterday I ordered the Kona cotton we will need for the blocks for our charity quilt. My sewing chapter is going to make one or two quilts that will be auctioned off next year at the Glencroft Retirement Community's Quilt Auction. This year, the auction made over $150,000. We will give out blocks to our members to embroider, applique, or embellish any way they want and then sew all the blocks into a quilt. The quilt will be a southwestern theme. Not sure what the second quilt will be.

Sewing Workshop

The Phoenix ASG Chapter had it's annual spring workshops and several of us chose to attend the "sissy bag" workshop. The bag was designed and taught by Sandy Evanko. Many of us were leery of the project for different reasons but come Saturday, all those worries were wasted energy. All of our bags turned out to be beautiful and many of us plan on making another bag. I already have an idea for my next bag. Above is a picture of the bag and a close up.

I also finally got around to taking a picture of my second clothesline bowl.

I also completed my wallhanging

Eric Clapton concert

We spent Sunday night at the Eric Clapton concert. My mom bought us tickets even though she had already seen him in Chicago. The more I think about the concert, the better I like it. His warm up band was Robert Cray who I really like. I think he has a very unique voice although the US Airways Arena where the concert was held did not contribute anythng to his voice. It did not have the best accoustics.

Eric Clapton was terrific! He had a couple of young guitarists who he shared the limelight with and they were extraordinary. Tom did not think that Derek Trucks was all that great but I think both he and Doyle something-or-other were amazing! I think Eric Clapton must have appreciated their talent as well to allow them to do so many solo pieces.

There was one part where Eric was unplugged and it was just him under a solo spotlight which was really great. Then some other members of his band came out and they played a few unplugged songs. Then they went into full-on rock-n-roll blues!

The people behind us left because there was too much blues guitar for them and I thought they were kind of crazy, but oh well.

I was really glad we had tickets for the sold out concert. I still think Paul McCartney was the best concert I have ever seen within the last 10 years.

Thoughts on Anna Nicole Smith

I am ashamed to admit it but will anyway...I am fascinated by all of this Anna Nicole drama. If I see something in print; I have to read it. If there is something on t.v.; I have to watch it. I usually don't care much for celebrity news and totally disregard all the stories on Brittany, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, etc. But Anna Nicole stuff is just something I can't turn my eyes away from. Just yesterday, the New Times had an article that she has a kid living on the Tohono O'Odham reservation http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2007-03-08/news/tohono-o-odham-with-love//

The New Times is known to spoof stories so this could be another one of those but it does make for some fun reading. I kind of doubt the truth of the whole thing but ya just never know.

Bunco tonight and sewing workshop tomorrow. Kind of a busy weekend.

Weekend

Hooray! I got to a whole lot of projects that have been weighing on my mind and have made progress with them all. Unfortunately, the yard work and pool work suffered a little bit because of it but at least I can see the end of the tunnel (not to mention hard surfaces of my sewing room).

It was really windy on Saturday and pointless to try and vacuum the pool or rake dead ficus leaves. After I skimmed the pool, an hour later it would be full of leaves so that was all useless work.

We have bunco this coming Friday and then Saturday is the Bevy of Bags workshops. Sunday night is the Eric Clapton concert so this weekend will be pretty busy.

A new worry

I am slightly worried that Addie might be showing signs of dog dementia. I know nothing about it and hope to find out more from Dr. Hirsch next Friday when both dogs go in to have their ears checked. The other night was the second time Addie has awoken me from sleep by barking, barking, barking. When I went to see what she was barking about, she was in the backyard barking at the doggie door. It made me think that she didn't remember that she could go through it anytime she wanted. She is only 9 years old but this was very weird behavior from her. And, as I said, this is the second time it has happened. The first time was several months ago. I hope this is something I don't have to face. She has been in such good health ever since she came to live with me.
