ONLY 30 MORE DAYS UNTIL THE SEW IN

That's right!!! Just 30 more days until the weekend devoted entirely to sewing, socializing, eating and drinking. As you can tell, I can hardly wait. This year, I'm not as organized and have not figured out exactly what I am going to take to work on. One thing I know I will be taking is a quilt for a friend who will be retiring from the firm soon. I have to do the quilting to it and then bind it up before I give it to her. I think I have plenty of time. Other than that, I have no idea.

My chenille quilt is coming along finally. Four layers of fabric makes it one heavy quilt!! That should be finished in the next week or so and I will have photos to post when it's done. I should also have photos to post of the tomato quilt. It turned out much better than I thought when I was half way through it. I think I'm going to try and sell this one, somehow, someway.

Memorial Day Weekend

Went up to Prescott on Friday for Memorial Day Weekend. Left early hoping to beat the traffic and got up there about 2:00. Didn't do too much the rest of the day until evening when we met up with Tom's friend, Glen, and went to dinner at The Cattlemans. Although it was good, it wasn't as good as last time. The place was jam packed and we had to wait for a table.

The next day was spent doing all the yard work that had mounted up over the winter. I cleaned out all the roof gutters and Tom weed-whacked and began the raking of all the pine needles. He worked like a maniac and got the majority done without much help from me. We bagged probably 26 bags which hopefully will be hauled away soon. Tom had a mishap with the weed whacker and got a bit of a cut on his leg and then he bonked his head coming up out of the basement and got a knot on his head.

The rest of the day was spent moaning and groaning about getting old and stiff from doing the work. I wasn't too stiff to take the dogs for their twice daily walk and it helped get some of the stiffness out of these old bones. Then, Tom cooked dinner that and we started watching Peter the Great which we finished on Sunday.

Sunday was pretty lazy. Took the dogs on a long walk in the a.m. and did some reading and some sewing. Then went into town to have lunch at the Dinner Bell. I have never had chicken fried steak for breakfast or lunch so ordered it. It was really good but the hash browns were terrible! Blagghhh!! Then we walked to the Square to check out the Phippen show but we didn't stay long. Walked across the street to the shops and went in a few. Bought a new print from the artist's cooperative and met the artist. We had previously bought a print of hers of the Palace Hotel and a T-shirt that she had done. This time we bought a print of the St. Michael's Hotel so it was kind of neat to meet her. She was glad to meet us too since it's not often she meets someone who has her print hanging in their family room.

Headed back to the cabin and did some more sewing and reading. I think there was even a bit of a nap taken. Had left over spaghetti for dinner and then watched the rest of Peter the Great. Came back to Phoenix early on Monday and took the back way down Yarnell Hill. Not much of a crowd that way either.

Update on Book Club

We had our third meeting of the book club last night and the assigned book was The Fountainhead. I was not looking forward to reading that book one bit and it turned out I absolutely loved it! The funny thing is that one of the other members was looking forward to reading it. She truly hated it and did not finish it. Our hostess found a survey on the internet taken in 1991 which found that the #1 most influential book to those surveyed was The Bible and the second most influential book was The Fountainhead. This is kind of ironic since The Fountainhead is totally aetheistic and con-religion and The Bible...well, The Bible is what it is.

Our next book is These Is My Words by Nancy Turner which is about a woman pioneer in Southern Arizona. I read it once and loved it so much I had to buy the book because I knew I would be reading it over and over. One reason I like it so much is because of the descriptions of Arizona back then and especially Southern Arizona where I was born and where my dad was born and raised. So, I like to imagine my grandma, sort 'a, as the heroine of the story.

Agua Fria High School Reunion

I just found out that our class is planning for our 30th reunion. I'm posting this in the off chance that google will pick it up if someone searches for the reunion. I have no idea if it will be successful but here goes....

All the live long day

Went up to Prescott for the weekend. Instead of starting with the cleaning of the yard, I started on the inside of the house. I felt so much better after it was all done although there is still a little bit of cleaning yet to be done that I might or might not get to next weekend. It was not nearly as full of the three d's (dog hair, dirt & dust) as I thought it would be but still plenty dirty.

Baseball and snow

We went to the game Thursday night against the Mets and I almost caught a foul ball. We are in foul ball territory and this was the closest one has ever come. It landed in the empty seat next to me and when I tried to grab it, my arm got caught in the seat and the guy in front of me leaned over and snatched it right up. I never even put a finger on it but I saw it and could have had it.

Drove up to Prescott on Saturday to open the cabin and it was snowing!!!! The temperature gauge in the car showed the temp to be in the high 40s, low 50s. Very strange weather. Needless to say, we did not hang around too long.

Major Surgery!!!

Not really. Just had some very minor surgery done to my big toe which apparently was infected. Anyway, the doctor put the toe to sleep and did some cutting of the skin and then wrapped it in a huge bandage. During half time of the Suns game, the phone rang and the caller ID said it was from U.S. Airways Center. I got all excited and thought somehow I had won a prize. When I answered, it was actually the foot doctor calling from the game (he's one of the doctors for the Suns) to see how I was doing. Can you imagine a doctor actually calling at night to see how you are doing for some incredibly minor and insignificant surgery and especially when he is at a playoff game????? Unheard of!!!!

My Friend Carol

I am so proud of my friend Carol. She joined Weight Watchers over a year ago and has lost 40-50lbs and has only put back on a couple of pounds. She started doing water exercises and when it got too cold she started yoga. All of these things have been hard for her because she has been sedentary most of her life and definitely all of her adult life. Exercise does not come easy to someone with that kind of history. Now, she has hired a personal trainer to give her cardio and weight training. This is all so great that I just had to comment on it! I think the weight training is going to be very hard but I think she has the desire to stick to it. Go Carol!!!
