Here I am, all happy because I now have wifi in my sewing room. Previously, I copied all my photos and embroidery designs to my portable external hard drive for safe keeping and as soon as the wifi was up and going, I ran a virus scan and spyware scan (which hadn't been done in months).
Then, I post something in yesterday's blog and when I come back to visit, I see I had a comment. The comment turned to garbage as soon as I clicked it. Fortunately, blogspot allows us to edit these nasty things and now that comment has been banished into digital space.

Criminy!!
I forgot to blog about how much our quilts made at the Glencroft Auction. Glencroft received a total of $1,000 for both quilts. The southwestern one sold for $350 and the pink and green one went for $650. I don't think Glencroft raised as much this year as they did last year. It seemed that many quilts (including handmade Amish quilts) went for ridiculously low prices. There were very few quilts that sold for over $1,000. I had a bidding limit so I was outbid on all the quilts I was interested in.

What is keeping me busy
I have not had much time to work on making inventory for the internet business and so that project is kind of on hold for the time being.
Lately, it seems the sewing I am working on is all for charity. The Phoenix Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is really trying to "pump up the volume" of its community service projects and since I am the chair of the community service committee, a lot of it is falling on me to do or to supervise. Which is fine and I'm certainly not complaining but it's not leaving a lot of time for other things.
We are making anti-ouch pouches for a breast cancer recovery group and I am making up all the kits to give out to our members in order to eliminate some of the work for them.
We will also be doing some projects for Arizona Power Paws and nap quilts for the UMOM NewDay Center I am currently working on one of these quilts which I hope to have finish in a week or two.
It has been interesting to visit with these organizations but it has certainly kept me hoppin'.

Easter Parade
Instead of hats, how about shoes? My dogs would be barking after having some of these on my feet.

Nada Mass
I know; I spelled it wrong but roughly translated it means no more Mass for me. At least for Easter service. I made the mistake one year of going to Mass on Saturday night for Easter. Uggghhhh. It was awful! Translations in Spanish and English plus confirmations, yada, yada, yada. It started at 7:00 and I left at 10:00 (couldn't take it anymore) and it still wasn't over. Eeeessshhh. In addition, the bloody parents had no control over their kids and the hooligans were running all over the church during the service. What is the world coming to?
Anyway, I still continue to attend Mass almost every Saturday but not Easter service. I don't think this one little transgression will get me into hell any faster.

Lake Powell & Glen Canyon Dam
Some more vacation photos to share:

This is Lake Powell. You can see how far the level is down by the bathtub ring.

We're standing on top of the dam in this photo having started our personal tour.

This is some kind of a crane that moves across the top of the dam.

Tom and our tour guide on top of the dam looking out on the Colorado River.

The visitor's center taken from the bottom of the dam.

Another shot of the Colorado taken from the bridge.

Glen Canyon Dam
Glen Canyon Dam has been in the news lately for opening up the pen stocks to let the water flow from Lake Powell into the Colorado River in order to recreate the beaches along the Colorado. We just visited Glen Canyon Dam in January and I finally copied all my photos from my desktop and laptop onto a portable external drive that I can access at work during my lunch hour for faster internet speed.
While at the Dam, we were given our own private tour of the "innards" and working parts. Tom is really into dams and he has been here several times. All in all it was pretty interesting. It took years to build and the water in Lake Powell is at it's lowest point ever. There was a time in the early 90's when they feared the water would overtop the dam but it didn't happen. Anyway, here are some photos.

Charity quilts
My sewing guild has made a quilt to donate to Glencroft Retirement Community. Every March, Glencroft has a quilt auction and some of the proceeds are used as financial assistance to residents who have depleted their personal resources. Last year, Glencroft made over $150,000 in the auction.
The quilt we decided to make had a southwest theme and members were required to either hand or machine embroider a quilt block, paint a block or applique a block. We named our quilt, Southwest Travels.
Another member of our guild was working on her own quilt but got tired of it so donated it to the guild to finish. Hers in the pink and green one seen in the photos below.

"New" Sewing room
After living with a totally disorganized sewing room for over a year, I now have it just the way I like it. All due to Tom's urging and suggestions. His suggestion for the arrangement was unorthodox but was the only workable solution if I wanted to use all the work space in the best manner.

This is the "embroidery machine" corner.

This is the cutting area and the "sewing library"

This is the quilting table and the machine that gets the most use

This is the computer area. Note, there is no printer yet but I'm working on it

This is the cutting table opened up for use

These are the sewing knick knacks

This is the closet where all the fabrics, notions and extra machines are kept.(this was taken at night and the lighting is not the best in there...working on that as well)
